Basistha ashram, 12km southeast of Guwahati, is a nice place with a waterfall and some temples. There is a red-domed temple here dedicated to Vasistha Muni, the author of the Ramayana, built in the Assamese style. You get here by taking a bus on GN Bordoloi Rd.
Navagrah Temple on Chitrachal Hill is dedicated to the nine planets. It is on a hill east of town. The former name of Guwahati was Pragjyotishpur, which mean “City of Astrology.”
Doul Govinda Mandir, a well known Krishna temple is situated in North Guwahati. The temple is famous for its colorful Holi celebration which falls in the month of February. Every day the temple is visited by five thousand pilgrims to obtain the divine blessings.
