Mayapur - Caitanya Matha
Mayapur Sri Chaitanya Math was established by Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur in the year 1918. Subsequently within a few years, he established sixty four Gaudiya Maths as branches of Mayapur Sri Chaitanya Math throughout the country and abroad. In fact, Srila Saraswati Thakur’s dearest disciple Sri Bhakti Bilas Tirtha Goswami Maharaj brought its prestine glory to the extent as of today; whosoever visits Sree Mayapur remarks, “It is an Abode of Peace”
It is the sacred Vrindavan of Bengal, hallowed by the Chanting of Holy Krishna Nama all day and night. Surrounded on all sides by emerald green paddy fields, the Ganges and the Jalangi flowing near by, far from the maddening crowds of strife and strains, Sree Mayapur, the holy land of Birth of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is just 120 K.M. North from Kolkata.
Srila Sarasvati Thakura’s samadhi is situated here as well as the Samadhi-mandira of Srila Gaura-kisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja, the guru of Srila Sarasvati Thakura. Stepping down one finds the monumental marble stone-built Sri Chaitanya Math temple with twenty-nine domes of such formidable heights, considered to be Sri Govardhan Giri of Vraja, where Sri Krishna’s highly mystic Love-play with Smt. Radhika took place.
There is a Radha Kunda and a Shyam Kunda, intoxicated as it were in drinking deep the unique beauty of the Dham; while one looks to the Ishodyan a pleasant grove on the bank of Radha Kunda, it surpasses the heavenly Nandana Kanan. The Spacious Hall in front of the Temple is meant for theistic discourses and bhajans daily in the morning, afternoon and evening. Adjacent to it is the book department where you may find about a hundred Math Publications in different languages-such as, Bengali, English, Hindi, Oriya and Telegu.
Srila Saraswati Thakur broadcasts that Sri Chaitanya Math is established to convey the holy gift of the ancient religion and culture observed and preached by millions of Sages from age to age in our blessed country. School started and managed by Sri Chaitanya Math for the purpose of giving to the boys and girls spiritual training along with secular training. About two hundred yards from Sri Chaitanya Math stands Sri Yogapith, the Birth site Temple of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The huge and magnificent Temple of 140 feet height is, of course, discovered by Thakur Bhakti Vinode.
