ISKCON San Jose, Silicon Valley
The New Temple ISKCON of Silicon Valley (ISV) is one of the most exciting things happening in ISKCON in North America at this time. The ISV community has a special spirit of vitality and enthusiasm. ISV’s Temple President, Vaisesika Das, is expert in organizing and directing the community members in devotional service. ISV offers a stable and satisfying model of congregational preaching, in which all the devotees’ needs and natures and conditional duties are taken into account as we progress together along the path to pure Krishna Bhakti. As such, the community has been steadily growing in an organic and economically sustainable way while retaining its purity and commitment to Srila Prabhupada’s teachings and ideals.
It has taken us awhile, but ISV has finally purchased a well-built and centrally-located Home Base property at 1965 Latham Street in Mountain View, which will make attendance at temple functions more comfortable and convenient for larger numbers of people. This is an historic step for the community, which since its inception in 1997 has been renting smaller premises with inadequate facilities. The Renovation Project, which is already underway, will add a state-of-the-art, 650-square-feet commercial kitchen and will establish a kitchen, pujari and altar area closed off from the public and accessible only by priests and authorized personnel, in order to improve the standards of cleanliness and purity in our service to the Deities. This New Temple is therefore a great leap forward in the history of a great ISKCON community, which has been an innovator in congregational book distribution and other “best practices” that can be replicated in other ISKCON temples in North America.
