ISKCON Pietermaritzburg
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has launched a project to establish a temple and cultural centre at the corner of Bombay Road and Olympia Way in Pietermaritzburg. This will realise the vision of the Founder Acarya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to have a centre of Krishna consciousness in every city, town and village. The temple and cultural centre and will consist of the following facets:
1. Beautiful deities of the Lord will be installed once the temple is completed and then worshipped daily. All members of the community will be able to worship and have darshan (audience) of the deities daily.
2. The temple will comprise of a kitchen as part of ISKCON’s successful Food for Life program, based on Srila Prabhupada’s compassionate mood that no one should go hungry within a ten kilometre radius of a temple. Sumptuous, soul nourishing food will be prepared daily and distributed to the surrounding communities.
3. A restaurant catering delicious, authentic and strictly vegetarian food will be established within the centre offering a tasty experience that will be one of its kind in Pietermaritzburg.
4. The centre will dedicate itself to educating people in the science of religion via the revealed scriptures like Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam and other works by Srila Prabhupada. Scriptural courses will be facilitated by qualified educators.
