Holy places and temples

Holy places everywhere are meant for purifying the consciousness of the visitor. A place is made particularly holy by the presence of the Lord and His pure devotees. 

For Vaisnavas the major places of pilgrimage are Vrindavana, Mathura, Dwarka and Jagannatha Puri. Vrindavana is the site of Lord Krishna's pastimes

For the Shaivites, the major places of pilgrimages are Kedarnath, Rameshwaram, Somnath and the 12 Jyothi Lingams.

For all the other devotees, the Bharatvasi – the 4-Dham Yatra is the most significant. Pilgrimage to "Char Dham" is taken visiting Yamunotri, Gangothri, Kedarnath and Badrinath in the series and before this pilgrimage every pilgrimage to wash away their sins by a dip in the Holy Ganga at Har-ki-pauri, Haridwar before entering the Dev Bhoomi and hence the name….

A visit to a holy place does not only mean taking a bath in a sacred river or visiting temples. If one visits a holy place, he should search out the devotees residing there, take lessons from them and try to apply such instructions in practical life. Krishna, Vishnu are always present with His devotees and by their actions any place can become a place of pilgrimage.
