Defeating the Demons

BY: CAITANYA DAS

Hiranyakashipu, the Daitya demon, performed great austerity in order to get his boon from Lord Brahma, and went about his business of dominance. In today's society we also have demons who have the goal of dominance and enjoyment. Hiranyakasipu may have in his own way seen the value of "value capture theory", strategic capture of all the important elements of society, with his goal of wielding lasting influence.

In kali-yuga and the times we are living we can see how it is the demons have captured the most influential parts of society, and we will have to think strategically how to remove them using the weapons Srila Prabhupada has given us. We can see what he said: Books are the basis; purity is the force; preaching is the essence; utility is the principle. He also said Intelligence is the way to spread Krishna Consciousness.

We have to consider that the dumbed down Darwinian does not even accept Dualism, even though Plato, Aristotle, Descartes and many famous philosophers throughout history have understood this simple principle of mind matter separation. We have a lot of history on our side, yet curiously the Darwinian model still pervades modern education systems, along with its flaws. Srila Prabhupada has shown our leaders by his own example and strategies how to remove demonic influence from society. We simply have to surrender and carry it out. As Krishna said to Arjuna, I have already killed all these soldiers but you become an instrument and get credit. Prabhupada said a similar thing to his disciples: Mahaprabhu has already put His plans into action, we, if we surrender, can partake in the glories of the plan.

The demonic influence must be halted.

So poor is our preparation that many new students who come to Bhaktivedanta Manor on Bhakti Sastra courses, and I assume other centres within ISKCON, have not even heard of Sadaputa prabhu, or any of the history of philosophy. We are in danger of churning out Hindu minded narrow thinkers. They are without any background in general philosophy or understanding of the flaws of mechanistic Darwinian thinking, or an understanding of multidimensional space time presented by Sadaputa Prabhu and others from the Bhaktivedanta Institute, an Institute that's been relegated in its importance by our current leaders.

Some of our big leaders are assuming Covid19 is going to change everything, but they should get real. Although Krishna lent a hand to Arjuna on a few occasions, still Arjuna carried out his all important tasks, tasks that we in ISKCON have not really developed strategies for, i.e., removal of demoniac influences. Srila Prabhupada's instructions and directions are there clearly to be seen.

Krishna says in Bhagavad gita:

Chapter 16, Verse 10
The demoniac, taking shelter of insatiable lust, pride and false prestige, and being thus illusioned, are always sworn to unclean work, attracted by the impermanent.

Chapter 16, Verse 11-12
They believe that to gratify the senses unto the end of life is the prime necessity of human civilization. Thus there is no end to their anxiety. Being bound by hundreds and thousands of desires, by lust and anger, they secure money by illegal means for sense gratification.

Chapter 16, Verse 13-15
The demoniac person thinks: So much wealth do I have today, and I will gain more according to my schemes. So much is mine now, and it will increase in the future, more and more. He is my enemy, and I have killed him; and my other enemy will also be killed. I am the lord of everything, I am the enjoyer, I am perfect, powerful and happy. I am the richest man, surrounded by aristocratic relatives. There is none so powerful and happy as I am. I shall perform sacrifices, I shall give some charity, and thus I shall rejoice. In this way, such persons are deluded by ignorance.

Chapter 16, Verse 16
Thus perplexed by various anxieties and bound by a network of illusions, one becomes too strongly attached to sense enjoyment and falls down into hell.

Chapter 16, Verse 17
Self-complacent and always impudent, deluded by wealth and false prestige, they sometimes perform sacrifices in name only without following any rules or regulations.

Chapter 16, Verse 18
Bewildered by false ego, strength, pride, lust and anger, the demon becomes envious of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is situated in his own body and in the bodies of others, and blasphemes against the real religion.

Now. Looking at all the important elements of material society, education, commerce and rules attached to it, culture, science, philosophy, arts, economic policies, family structure, moral ethics, religion, politics, to name but some aspects, they have all been captured by demons directly or indirectly.

Before the preaching and education by Srila Prabhupada, practically no one could understand what the problems of the world really were or knew of the solutions. A British prime minister once said we need education, education, education, Prabhupada wanted spiritual, cultural, and social re-education and he immediately recognized the main demons who were providing the false education and fuelling the illusory goals, and in so doing, breaking established religiously oriented cultures, stemming from older cultures based on at least a semblance of scripture.

Prabhupada also did not care for unfair business practices putting the working man out of work, or introduction of unfair exploitative work practices. He had preference for simple living, locally based economies. Globalization and large companies centralising output of goods and consumer led policymakers based on ruination of Mother Earth's resources is another symptom of the demonic capturing essential aspects of society.

What will the current Hare Krishna movement do about all this? Will they point out in a clear precise and intelligent manner the problems the world is facing thanks to the influence of the demonic, and give solutions on every level, or will they retreat into Hinduism religion and rituals?

Just what is the mission of His Divine Grace, and just who was he representative of? These are some of the deep questions the Hare Krishna movement has to consider in 2020. Hiranyakashipu captured the whole of society, but ultimately he was defeated by the maneuvering of the Supreme Lord. Our Hare Krishna Movement is meant for that purpose.
