The ISKCON Mauritius community has marked a significant milestone with the successful closure of its Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement for the development of a 5-star vegetarian restaurant within the Sri Sri Radha Golokananda Mandir premises. The BOT process, which opened earlier this year, officially concluded on February 17, 2025, as ISKCON Phoenix selected a developer to undertake the project.
The restaurant initiative forms a crucial component of the Temple of Unity project, aligning with ISKCON’s mission to provide a hub for Krishna-conscious worship while promoting sattvic dietary principles and Vedic wisdom. The facility, planned over a 6,000–7,000 square-foot area, was designed to offer a high-end, multi-cuisine vegetarian dining experience in adherence to Vaishnava traditions. With a seating capacity for 200 guests, the restaurant is also envisioned to support the temple’s 400-seat auditorium, amphitheater, reception area, and devotional gift shop, serving both private and public functions.

Under the BOT agreement, the selected developer will assume responsibility for designing, constructing, and managing the restaurant while adhering to ISKCON’s architectural and aesthetic standards. Key obligations include:
• Operations: Delivering high-quality vegetarian cuisine and managing catering services for temple events.
• Maintenance: Ensuring top-tier facility upkeep while complying with health and safety regulations.
• Reporting: Providing regular financial and operational reports to ISKCON management.
The agreement stipulates that construction must be completed within 18 months from the contract signing, with the operator managing the facility for a minimum of 10 years before transferring ownership to ISKCON’s Property Trust. Revenue-sharing agreements, operational costs, and maintenance responsibilities were finalized during the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage.
With this agreement now in place, ISKCON Mauritius looks forward to the next phase of development, which will see the integration of this restaurant as a key element of the Temple of Unity’s broader mission. Further updates on the construction progress and anticipated opening dates will be shared in due course.
