Jagannath Puri, a city in Orissa, India, is a great holy city in India which was, before His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami came to the United States in 1965, practically unknown outside India. However, Srila Prabhuapda brought the Lord of the Universe, Lord Jagannath to the West. Srila Prabhupada established the now famous "Festival of the Chariots," or Ratha Yatra festival in many cities worldwide. So now the smiling face of Lord Jagannath is quite well known all over the world. This film is a documentary on the city of Jagannath Puri in India, the home of the famous Jagannath Temple and the annual Ratha Yatra Festival. Jagannath Puri is the city of Lord Caitanya as when Lord Caitanya left his family life in Navadvipa his mother requested Him to make his headquaters in Puri rather than in Vrindavan. She was thinking that Puri is quite close to Bengal so that if Nimai went to Puri she would still get regular news about Him from the many devotees who are always travelling between Puri and Bengal. So Lord Caitanya made Jagannath Puri his base and lived there for many years in experiencing the ecstatic feelings of separation from Krishna.
