Janmastami festival 2008
Janmashtami is the appearance day of Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, 5000 years ago. This festival is celebrated throughout India with great enthusiasm. Nowadays, not only in India, but throughout the whole world, devotees celebrate this as one of the major festivals of the year! This most auspicious day offers wonderful opportunities to please the Supreme Lord by participating in this glorious festival. On the calendar day of Janmashtami devotees immerse themselves in activities centred around Lord Krishna.
These activities are mainly bhajans, chanting the Lord's holy names, discussing scripture, assisting pilgrims, abhisekh (bathing the Deity), fasting for a certain amount of time, and eating prasadam (sanctified food) in the company of friends and devotees. All these activities are performed for the pleasure of the Lord and with the hope of achieving His blessings.
